Rare and beautiful Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer II 1655. Production year according to serial number 670XXXX is 1981. Example in excellent condition and recently serviced.

Watch features a flawless and beautifully aged Mk4 black dial with tritium lume and original tritium hands. Center seconds hand is the lollipop version. Originally red GMT arrow hand, known as “freccione,” has aged to an orange tone. Steel bezel is the correct original Mk4 version for the production year. Watch remains water-resistant and has been tested to +10 / −0.7 bar. Case size is 39 mm.

Watch is fitted with a fully restored Rolex cal. 1575 GMT chronometer automatic movement.

Rolex Oyster 78360/580 steel bracelet is in good condition. Clasp code on the bracelet is T11. No original box or papers.

Watch comes with a 12-month Rolex service warranty.

Rolex Explorer II Freccione from 1981

Rolex introduced the Explorer II 1655 model in 1971. Model was originally intended for use by cave explorers and similar professionals. Watch features a fixed steel bezel and a large red arrow-shaped GMT hand. Use of the bezel and GMT hand made it easier for cave explorers to maintain a sense of day and night rhythm in dark environments. Due to this arrow hand, collectors refer to the model as “Freccione” (Italian for “arrow”). During the earliest production years, dials featured the so-called frog-foot Rolex crown logo and a T-Swiss-T marking at the bottom of the dial, indicating the use of tritium luminous material. In later dial versions, the tritium marking was changed to Swiss-T<25. Freccione models produced between 1971 and 1973 were equipped with a straight center seconds hand. In 1974, Rolex transitioned to the more visible lollipop-style seconds hand. Production of the Explorer II 1655 model ended in 1984.

Kellossa on virheetön ja kauniisti ikääntynyt Mk4 musta kellotaulu tritium-lumella ja alkuperäiset tritium osoittimet. Keskisekunti osoitin on Lollipop –mallia. Alunperin punainen GMT-nuoliosoitin ”freccione” on muuttunut väriltä oranssiksi. Teräsbezel on valmistusvuoden alkuperäinen Mk4 malli. Kello on yhä vesitiivis, testattu +10/-0,7 bar. Kuoren koko on 39mm.

Kellossa on juuri täysin kunnostettu Rolexin cal. 1575 GMT kronometri automaattikoneisto.

FRECCIONE

Rolex esitteli Explorer II 1655 mallin vuonna 1971. Malli oli alunperin tarkoitettu mm. luolasukeltajien käyttöön. Kellossa on kiinteä teräksinen lasisarja ja suurikokoinen, punainen nuolimainen GMT-osoitin. Bezelin ja GMT-osoittimen avulla luolasukeltajan oli helpompi pitää kiinni vuorokausirytmistä pimeässä luolassa. Tämän nuoliosoittimen vuoksi mallia kutsutaan keräilijöiden keskuudessa nimellä Freccione, (italia: nuoli).

Tuotannon ensimmäisinä vuosina kellotauluissa Rolexin kruunulogo oli nk frog-foot mallia ja kellotaulun alaosassa oli T-Swiss-T merkintä osoittamassa loistemassan aktivoivaa tritiumia. Myöhemmissä tauluversioissa tritium-merkintä muuttui muotoon Swiss-T<25. Freccione malleissa oli käytössä vuosina 1971-73 suora keskisekunti osoitin. 1974 Rolex siirtyi käyttämään pimeässä helpommin näkyvää lollipop-mallia. Explorer II 1655 mallin valmistus päättyi vuonna 1984.
