Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse was introduced in 1968, with its distinctive proportions based on the Golden Section, a ratio of 1:1.618. Rather than following the conventional round watch case, Patek Philippe created a design based on geometric proportions that would become one of the manufacture’s most recognisable forms.
Reference 3738, introduced in 1978, was one of the longest-running references in the Golden Ellipse collection. During its production, which continued for several decades, the reference was offered with a wide range of dials and bracelets. Ref. 3738/122 belongs to the second production series, produced from 1984 to 1999, and is distinguished by its 18k yellow gold “beads of rice” bracelet.
This example is fitted with the characteristic blue-gold dial and applied gold baton indexes. Measuring approximately 31 x 35.5 mm, its proportions remain close to those of the original Grande Ellipse design while providing a larger presence than the earlier standard-sized Ellipse models.
Powering the watch is Patek Philippe’s automatic cal. 240, featuring a micro-rotor construction that allows the movement to remain particularly thin. The movement is Geneva Seal certified and represents one of Patek Philippe’s long-running automatic movement families.
Watch is delivered with original double box, leather document holder, Certificate-of-Origin (Aseman Kello, in Helsinki July 1998) as well as various Patek Philippe documents.
Watch has 12-month service warranty.
This watch has flawless blue-gold sigma dial and yellow gold hands. 18k yellow gold case is unpolished with sharp assay marks in case and braclet. Caseback is engraved with elegant initials. Original and rare integrated 18k yellow gold beads-of-rice bracelet is still in very good condition.
Watch was fully serviced in January 2026 and in our recent tests it was running very well.

Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse esiteltiin vuonna 1968, ja sen tunnusomainen muoto perustuu niin sanottuun kultaiseen leikkaukseen, suhteeseen 1:1,618. Tämän mallin perinteisestä pyöreästä kellosta poikkeava muotoilu perustui geometrisiin mittasuhteisiin, joista muodostui yksi Patek Philippen tunnetuimmista malleista.
Ref. 3738 esiteltiin vuonna 1978, ja siitä tuli yksi Golden Ellipse -malliston pitkäikäisimmistä malleista. Tuotantonsa aikana kelloa valmistettiin useilla erilaisilla kellotauluilla ja rannekkeilla. Ref. 3738/122 kuuluu mallin toiseen tuotantosarjaan, jota valmistettiin vuosina 1984–1999, ja sen tunnistaa alkuperäisestä 18 karaatin keltakultaisesta beads of rice -rannekkeesta. Toisen sarjan koneistona käytettiin Patek Philippen automaattista cal. 240-31 -koneistoa.
Tässä kellossa on Golden Ellipse mallille tunnusomainen sininen sigma blue-gold kultataulu ja kultaiset indeksit. 18k kultakuori on hiomaton ja erittäin hyvässä kunnossa. Kuoressa ja ranteessa on tarkasti näkyvät kultaleimat, jotka ovat usein kiillotusten myötä pyöristyneet. Kuoren koko on noin 31 × 35,5 mm.
Patek Philippen cal. 240-31 kronometri automaattikoneisto on huollettu tammikuussa 2026 ja nyt tehdyissä testeissä se toimi moitteettomasti. Mikroroottorirakenteen ansiosta koneisto on erittäin ohut, mikä sopii hyvin Golden Ellipsen litteään profiiliin. Koneiston käyntireservi on n. 48 h.
Kellon mukana tulee molemmat alkuperäiset Patek Philippen laatikot, Certificate-of-Origin todistus (Aseman Kello, Heinäkuu 1998), nahkainen dokumenttivihko, käyttöohjeet ym. esitteitä.
Kellolla on 12 kk huoltotakuu.
