DISCO VOLANTE Disco Volante, meaning flying saucer, is a general term used for watches without traditional lugs, where the strap attaches directly beneath the case body. Most widely recognized manufacturer associated with this case style is Audemars Piguet. Gebhard Duve designed the AP reference 5093 in 1952, although similar case constructions appeared earlier in watches by Omega, Vacheron & Constantin, and others. Same case design was also used by Zenith, Longines, Cartier, Patek Philippe, and Universal Genève. ⸻ RECORD WATCH CO. Record Watch Company was founded in 1903 by a group of businessmen who acquired a patent for manufacturing so-called Sector pocket watches. These watches were easily recognizable due to their triangular case and movement. Dial design featured a retrograde display. Company merged with several manufacturers in 1916 and adopted the name Record Dreadnought Watch Co. S.A., under which a wide range of watches and movements were produced. During the 1940s, Record participated as one of twelve manufacturers in the British Ministry of Defence field watch program, later known as the “Dirty Dozen”. Official company name was changed back to Record Watch Co. in 1949. In the 1940s and 1950s, Record produced not only standard pocket and wristwatches but also more complex timepieces, including Datofix Triple-Date models and split-seconds chronographs. Longines acquired a majority shareholding in Record in 1961. Production later continued under the Longines-Record name. Record brand activity ceased in 1991 following Longines’ integration into the Swatch Group. ⸻ Technical Summary •Brand: Record Watch Co. DISCO VOLANTE

Disco Volante eli lentävä lautanen on yleisnimi kelloille, joiden kuoressa ei ole korvakkeita ja ranneke kiinnittyy suoraan rungon alla olevaan rakenteeseen.  Tällaisten kellojen valmistajista on tunnetuin on varmasti Audemars Piguet. Gebhard Duve suunnitteli AP:n ref. 5093. mallin vuonna 1952, mutta tämän tyyppisiä kelloja löytyi jo paljon aiemmin mm.  Omegalta (CK2013, 1937) ja Vacheron & Constantin:lta.  Tätä kuorimallia käyttivät tuotannossaan myös mm. Zenith, Longines, Cartier, Patek Philippe sekä Universal Geneve.

RECORD WATCH CO.

Record Watch Company:n perusti vuonna 1903 ryhmä liikemiehiä, jotka olivat hankkineet patentin nk. Sector -taskukellon valmistamiseksi.

Tämän nimen alla he valmistivat laajalti erilaisia kelloja ja koneistoja.

1940-luvulla Record osallistui yhtenä 12 kellovalmistajasta (Dirty Dozen) Brittien MOD:n tilaukseen valmistaa vesitiivis field-watch sotilaiden käyttöön. 1949 Record vaihtoi virallisen nimensä uudelleen muotoon Record Watch Co.

1940-1950-luvulla Record valmisti perus tasku- ja rannekellojen ohella monimutkaisempia kelloja. Näistä tunnetuimmat ovat Record Datofix Triple-Date ja Split-Second kronografit.

Longines osti vuonna 1961 suurimman osan Recordin osakekannasta. Record valmisti jatkossa osan tuotannosta nimellä Longines-Record.  Record kellomerkin toiminta loppui vuonna 1991 samalla kun Longines yhdistyi juuri perustettuun Swatch Group -ryhmään.
