OMEGA SEAMASTER CHRONO-QUARTZ A rare and exceptionally well-preserved Omega Seamaster Chrono-Quartz “Albatros” from the year 1976. Ref. 196.0052. This watch was a special model produced by Omega for the 1976 Montreal Olympics, featuring analog time and digital chronograph/date functions. The watch’s case back features the Olympic Cross of Merit medallion. The watch’s analog black tritium dial and hands are original. The digital display for timing functions operates flawlessly. The stainless steel case is in excellent condition. As part of the service, the mineral crystal has been replaced with a sapphire crystal. The case is splash-resistant. The case size is 34 x 46 mm. Omega cal. 1611 is fully serviced. Stainless steel bracelet is the original ref. 1277/212. The watch has just undergone a complete restoration at Omega’s factory service. The watch comes with a 24-month international service warranty from Omega. OLYMPIC CROSS OF MERIT The history of the Olympic Cross of Merit medallion, which is visible in the back of this watch, dates back to the Helsinki Olympics in 1952. Organizer of the Helsinki Olympics, XV Olympia Helsinki 1952 Ltd commissioned A.Tillander Jewelers to create The Olympic Cross of Merit and Medal. The designer was Oskar Pihl, Tillander’s artistic director and goldsmith, known for designing the Finnish Lion Knight’s Order decorations and the Mannerheim Cross. Omega, responsible for timing the Helsinki Olympics, introduced the latest measurement technology, including the Omega Time Recorder measurement devices based on quartz crystal technology. Omega conducted all the event timing without charge. In recognition of their contributions, the Olympic Committee awarded the Helsinki Olympic Cross of Merit to Charles Sickert, the head of Omega’s measurement unit, and the Omega factory. This medal became an important part of the design of the Omega Olympic XVI watch created in honor of the Melbourne Olympics in 1956. Likewise, this medal became part of the official olympic watch for the Montreal Olympics in 1976. OMEGA ALBATROSS Omega referred to this watch as the “Albatros” at the factory, because the structure of the contact plate in the 1611 movement resembled the wing of seabird Albatross. This watch was the world’s first chronograph to feature both analog and digital timekeeping mechanisms. The model was in production only in 1976, with a total production of 15,000 pieces. At the time, the watch was quite expensive, with a price of $375 in the United States, while the Omega Speedmaster Professional 145.022 model cost $175. It was considered a prestigious and high-end timepiece.

Harvinainen ja poikkeuksellisen hyväkuntoinen Omega Seamaster Chrono-Quartz “Albatros” vuodelta 1976. Ref. 196.0052.

Tämä kello oli Omegan Montrealin vuoden 1976 Olympialaisia varten valmistama erikoismalli, jossa on analoginen kellonaika ja digitaalinen ajanotto. Kellon takapohjassa on Olympic Cross of Merit -medaljonki.

Kellon analoginen musta tritium kellotaulu ja -osoittimet ovat alkuperäiset. Digitaalinäytössä näkyvä ajanotto toimii virheettömästi. Teräskuori on hienossa kunnossa. Huollon yhteydessä mineraalilasi on vaihdettu safiirilasiin. Kellon kuori on roiskevesitiivis. Kuoren koko on 34 x 46 mm.

Koneisto on Omegan cal.1611, jota käytettiin vain tässä kellomallissa. Teräsranneke on mallin alkuperäinen ref. 1277/212.

Kello on juuri täydellisesti kunnostettu Omegan tehtaan huollossa. Huollon suositushinta on 1850 €.

Kellolla on 24 kk Omegan tehtaan kansainvälinen huoltotakuu.

OLYMPIC CROSS OF MERIT

Tämän kellomallin takapohjassa näkyvä Olympic Cross of Merit -medaljongin historia alkaa Helsingin Olympialaisista vuonna 1952. Helsingin Olympialaisten järjestäjänä toiminut XV Olympia Helsinki 1952 ry. tilasi Tillanderilta Olympialainen-ansioristin ja -mitalin. Näiden suunnittelija oli Tillanderin taiteellinen johtaja, kultaseppä Oskar Pihl. Hän oli suunnitellut mm. myös Suomen Leijonan Ritarikunnan kunniamerkit sekä Mannerheim ristin.

Helsingin Olympialaisten ajanmittauksesta vastannut Omega oli tuonut Helsinkiin uusinta mittaustekniikkaa eli Omega Time Recorder mittalaitteet. Tämän laitteiston myötä Olympialaisten historiassa käytettiin ensimmäisen kerran kvartsikiteeseen pohjautuvaa tekniikkaa. Omega myös suoritti kaikki kisan mittaukset ilman korvausta. Olympiakomitea halusikin huomioida Omegan mittausyksikön johtajan Charles Sickertin ja Omegan tehtaan antamalla heille Helsingin Olympialainen -ansioristin. Tämä mitali päätyi tärkeäksi osaksi Melbournen Olympialaisten kunniaksi tehdyn Omega Olympic XVI kellon muotoilua vuonna 1956. Samoin tämä mitali tuli osaksi vuoden 1976 Montrealin virallisen Olympiakellon rakennetta.

OMEGA ALBATROS

Tätä sai tehtaalla kutsumanimen Albatros, koska kellon 1611 koneistossa olevan kontaktilevyn rakenne muistutti Albatrossin siipeä. Tämä kello oli maailman ensimmäinen kronografi, jossa oli analoginäytön lisäksi ajanottomekanismi digitaalinäytöllä. Malli oli tuotannossa vain vuonna 1976 ja sitä valmistettiin yhteensä 15.000 kpl. Kellon hinta Yhdysvalloissa oli $375 kun samaan aikaan Omega Speedmaster Professional 145.022 malli maksoi $175. Kello oli aikanaan siis hyvin arvokas.
