Beautiful and rare Jaeger 8-Days (Huit Jours) travel clock from the 1930s–1940s.
Clock features an attractive cream-colored dial with blued Cathedral-style hands. Arabic numerals and hands retain beautifully aged luminous material. Typical travel-clock alarm function is executed elegantly via a small subsidiary dial and hand located at the center of the main dial. All functions are operated through a single crown.
Case is leather-covered with an internal support structure made of wood and metal. Case dimensions are 11.5 × 7.5 cm. Height is 9 cm when open and 3 cm when closed.
Clock is powered by a manual-winding Jaeger-LeCoultre–manufactured 8-day movement. Movement features a Swiss lever escapement and two mainspring barrels, one for timekeeping and one for the alarm mechanism. Alarm sound is produced by a small striking hammer and wire that encircles the movement, ensuring a very discreet alarm tone. Alarm setting is adjusted via a pusher located at the center of the winding crown, advancing the alarm hand one minute at a time.
Clock is believed to have been manufactured in the late 1930s, as the brand signature corresponds to the name adopted after the merger of the Edmond Jaeger and Antoine LeCoultre watchmaking companies in 1937. Initially, Jaeger LeCoultre branding was used on wristwatches, pocket watches, and larger table clocks, while the Jaeger name was reserved for instruments as well as automotive, aviation, and travel clocks.
Clock has not been serviced but has been inspected and regulated. Performance in testing was good
Kaunis ja harvinainen Jaeger 8-Days (Huit jours) matkakello 1930-40-luvulta.
Kellossa on kaunis kermanvärinen kellotaulu ja sinistetyt Cathedral– malliset osoittimet. Kellotaulun arabialaisissa numeroissa ja osoittimissa on kauniisti ikääntynyt loistemassa. Matkakellolle tyypillinen herätystoiminto on tässä kellossa toteutettu elegantisti pienellä kellotaulun keskiössä olevalla omalla miniatyyri taululla ja osoittimella. Kaikkia toimintoja käytetään yhdestä nupista.
Kellon kuori on nahkaa ja tukirakenne puuta/metallia. Kuoren koko on 11,5 x 7,5 cm. Avattuna kellon korkeus on 9 cm ja suljettuna 3 cm.
Kellossa on manuaalivetoinen, 8 vrk käyvä Jaeger-LeCoultren valmistama koneisto. Koneistossa on sveitsiläinen ankkurikäynti ja kaksi jousikoteloa. Yksi käynnille ja toinen herätys mekanismille. Herätyksen ääni on toteutettu pienellä lyöntivasaralla ja -langalla, joka kiertää koneistoa. Tämä ratkaisu varmistaa, että herätysääni on hyvin hillitty. Herätyksen asetus tapahtuu vetonupin keskiössä olevasta painimesta, joka siirtää herätysosoitinta minuutin kerrallaan.
Kello on oletettavasti valmistettu 1930-luvun lopulla, koska nimen kirjoitusasu on sama minkä Edmond Jaeger ja Antoine LeCoultre:n kellotehtaat ottivat käyttöön yhdistymisen jälkeen vuonna 1937. Kellotehda käytti aluksi Jaeger LeCoultre tuotemerkkiä ranne- ja taskukelloissa sekä suuremmissa pöytäkelloissa. Tuotemerkkiä Jaeger yhtiö käytti mittareissa sekä auto-, lentokone- ja matkakelloissa.
Kelloa ei ole huollettu, mutta se on tarkistettu ja säädetty. Testissä se toimi hyvin.
