Rare and beautiful Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 3585. Production year according to serial number is 1980.

Watch features a flawless deep blue gold sigma dial and gold hands. Dial is protected by a sapphire crystal. 18k white gold case is in near-mint condition. Case size is 36 mm.

Patek Philippe cal. I-350 movement has just been fully restored and performed with excellent accuracy in testing.

Black Saffiano leather strap is from our own collection. Included is also the original alligator leather strap for ref. 3585, fitted with the original 18k white gold Patek Philippe buckle.

Included is a Patek Philippe black presentation box. No original papers.

18k Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 3585 from 1980

BACKWINDER Golden Ellipse ref. 3585 uses the Patek Philippe cal. 350 automatic movement. This is a relatively rare construction in which the gold automatic rotor rotates outside the movement itself. This design allowed the case to be made exceptionally thin, but required placement of the winding crown on the back of the case. Movement development was carried out by Jaeger-LeCoultre and patented by Patek Philippe in 1965. First watches reached the market in 1970. In the original construction, the rotor wound in both directions. The improved I-350 version, introduced in 1979, changed the system to unidirectional winding. ⸻ BLUE GOLD Another defining feature of this watch is the blue dial, which is crafted entirely from 18k gold. Gold dial plate is galvanically coated with a blue gold finish, a technique still used today by specialist dial manufacturers such as Comblémine, owned by Kari Voutilainen. Sigma marking (σ) at the bottom of the dial indicates that both dial and hands are made of gold. Marking originates from an organization called l’Association pour la Promotion Industrielle de l’Or (APRIOR), of which Patek Philippe was a member. BACKWINDER

Golden Ellipse 3585 mallissa Patek Philippe käytti cal. 350 automaattikoneistoa. Tämä on melko on harvinainen koneistomalli, jossa automaattimekansimin kultainen roottori pyörii koneiston ulkopuolella. Rakenne mahdollisti sen, että kuori voitiin valmistaa hyvin ohueksi, mutta samalla vetonuppi piti asentaa kuoren takapuolelle. Koneiston kehityksestä vastasi Jaeger LeCoultre ja Patek Philippe patentoi sen vuonna 1965. Ensimmäiset kellot tulivat myyntiin vuonna 1970. Alkuperäisessä rakenteessa roottorin veto toimi molempiin suuntiin pyöriessä, mutta 1979 esitelty I-350 (improved) malli muutti rakenteen vain yhteen suuntaan vetäväksi.

BLUE GOLD

Kellon erikoisuus on ehdottomasti koneiston ohella sininen kellotaulu, joka on kokonaisuudessaan 18k kultaa. Kellotaulun kultalevy on galvaanisesti pinnoitettu sinisellä kultavärillä, tekniikka jota mm. Voutilaisen omistama Comblémine käyttää nykyaikaisten kellotaulujen valmistuksessa.

Kellotaulun alaosassa oleva σ eli sigma -merkintä tarkoittaa, että kellotaulu ja osoittimet ovat kultaa. Merkinnän taustalla on yhdistys nimeltä l’Association pour la Promotion Industrielle de l’Or (APRIOR) johon mm. Patek Philippe kuului. Yhdistyksen tarkoituksena oli lisätä tietoa kelloissa käytetyistä jalometalliosista.
