The first Heuer Carrera with a date indicator at 12 o’clock, known as the Dato 12, was introduced in 1966. The model remained in the catalog for two years before Heuer decided to redesign it. The original model had an issue with the central chronograph hand, which, when idle, obstructed the date window at 12 o’clock.

In 1968, the Dato 45—nicknamed for its date position—was born. Its new dial aesthetic was the result of evolution and functionality: the date window was moved from 12 to 9 o’clock, and the 12-hour chronograph counter was omitted. The result was distinct and fresh. An original Heuer advertisement in the 1969 catalog declared it “ideal for the businessman who needs a chronograph but can never remember the date.”

Our Heuer Dato 45 is in very good condition. Its black matte dial is beautifully aged and entirely original, featuring rhodium-plated hands and tritium lume. The stainless-steel 36 mm case is unpolished, with only light marks from normal wear and use. The acrylic crystal is in good condition, complete with the original inner index ring.

For the Dato models, Heuer used the Landeron cal. 189 manual-wind chronograph movement. In our watch, the movement has been fully serviced in our workshop and comes with a 12-month service warranty.

In the photos, the watch is fitted with a matte black Hirsch Massai Ostrich leather strap. We have many strap options available, if the buyer would prefer something different.
