BREITLING AND AOPA

Breitling developed the Navitimer (Navigation & Timer) model in cooperation with AOPA, the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association based in the United States. Watch was equipped with a chronograph and a slide rule operated via a rotating bezel and dial combination. This made it easier for pilots to calculate turns, fuel consumption, and other essential flight data.

Very first Navitimer models designed for AOPA did not feature the Breitling name or logo on the dial, and reference 806 was not stamped on the caseback. These early watches were distributed exclusively to AOPA members. Only a few years later, around 1956, Navitimer became available on the open market, now bearing the Breitling name above the stylized wing logo and receiving the now-iconic 806 reference.

In the late 1950s, dial design was changed from black to a silver reverse-panda configuration, improving legibility. With this updated appearance, Navitimer gained popularity and was worn by figures such as jazz musician Miles Davis and Formula 1 champions Jim Clark, Graham Hill, and Jo Siffert.

Jaeger-LeCoultre E853 was the world’s first automatic wristwatch equipped with an alarm function. Model was produced in both stainless steel and gold cases and remained in production from 1956 to 1966
